September: RESPONSIBILITY & GOAL SETTING

Responsibility

What is responsibility?
We have a few different ways that we talk about responsibility. There’s being responsible, taking responsibility, acting responsibly, and having responsibilities. In simple words, responsibility is about doing the things we are supposed to do, and accepting the positive or negative outcomes of our actions.

  • Aresponsibility: something you are expected todo
  • Being responsible: doing the things you are supposed to do
  • Accepting responsibility: taking the praise or
the blame for something you have done

GoalSetting

Social Emotional Learning is important. SEL can be developed both at school and at home. Here’s some ways you can support this:

  1. Talk with your child about what each family member is responsible for at home.
  2. Work with your child to set both personal and academic goals and check in on their progress
    regularly.
  3. Read a book about responsibility and goal setting together. Here are some suggestions!

How To Support This At Home

Social Emotional Learning is important. SEL can be developed both at school and at home.

Here’s some ways you can support this:

  1. Discuss strategies with your child about what to do if they feel that they are being bullied.
  2. Talk with your child about what to do if they see someone bullying someone else.
  3. Read a book about bullying awareness and kindness. Here are some suggestions!

At the Banneker, we CARE!
CARE, which stands for Community, Achievement, Responsibility and Experience, are the values we uphold as a school. Classrooms create their class rules based on these principles, and we celebrate students who exemplify CARE on a monthly basis.
