Half Day Signup

This year, our half day (and full day) trainings will unified by theme. We are asking that you please sign up for a topic. By doing so, you will attend trainings on our half days: Sept. 20, Oct. 19, Nov. 3, Jan. 17 (Whole Day), March 14, and May 17.

If you are in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 please sign up for and send one grade level representative (non TA) to either Writing Across the Curriculum OR the STEAMS Expo committee. The other grade level representative will attend the other session. Specialists can sign up for either session. Other staff members can look at the bottom of the page to see the session they will be asked to join.




The following sessions can be signed up for if you are in grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, or if you are a specialist:


Language is a great unifying theme to what we do here at Banneker. Revisit how we use journals and notebooks, as well as other opportunities for writing. Please see Ms. Culverhouse, Ms. Martin-Steenburgh, or Ms. Williams for more information.


Connecting STEAMS and Literacy in Grades K-6:

Bring your talents, passion, interests and ideas and let us embark upon the journey of making teaching and learning a rich and exciting experience at the Banneker. Through collaboration, we will integrate literacy into mathematics, science, technology, engineering, the arts and yes, social studies. The team will determine the agenda and direction of the sessions.  Some of the possibilities are as follows: Multidisciplinary projects, Exhibitions, Curriculum mapping, Authentic assessments 

The following sessions serve specific grade levels/positions:

MIT Collaboration & MassCUE: (Kindergarten & Grade 5)

For the half day trainings during the 2016-2017 school year we will be discussing and developing our use of Design Thinking and Project Based Learning. MIT will refer to these things in the umbrella of Experiential Learning. Participants will work closely with Ms. Johnson, Mr. Perrine, and MIT staff for professional development days and in the classroom. If possible, participants will also be invited to MassCUE (annual state Technology conference). 


TA Social Studies & Technology Curriculum Design: (all teaching associates)

For the half day trainings during the 2016-2017 school year TAs will work with Ms. Hicks to map out a social studies curriculum. This group will be responsible for designing an integrated technology and social studies curriculum to be implemented throughout the year. This group will also be working with Ms. Hicks during our Tuesday "stay late" days to catch the other TAs up to speed on the curriculum progress, and solicit ideas.
